Is cold brew better than a steaming cup of coffee? In this article, we will discuss some of the benefits of cold brews and why you should start having cold brews over other types of coffee.

But first, what is a cold brew? Instead of using hot water to draw out the flavour and caffeine of coffee beans, cold brew coffee relies on time by steeping them in cold water for 12–24 hours. This makes it have a less bitter taste than a hot cup of coffee.

When preparing cold brews it is important to know that it is usually a slow, low temp brew that makes cold brew commonly taste different from hot brews using the same type of coffee beans. It usually gives off a mild chocolate and mellow taste to it, with low acidity fruits notes hinted as well.

An important distinction to know is that cold brew coffee is different from iced coffee as the cold brew is prepared differently from iced coffee. Iced coffee is brewed double strength then cooled, which creates a refreshing, lighter body. Its served sweetened, often with some milk.

Cold brew coffee is naturally sweeter than iced coffee. When it comes to iced coffee, sweeteners have to be added to make it have a sweeter taste. This means that if you prefer naturally sweeter tasting coffee with minimal added sweeteners, cold brew may just be the perfect option for you.

In comparison to a hot brew, cold brew coffee is also a less bitter tasting coffee than hot brew coffee. This means less sugar intake when having a cold brew while still getting your daily caffeine intake.

One of the main cons of having a cold brew is the amount of time it takes to make a good cup of cold brew as it has to steep in cold water for anywhere from half a day to a full day before being ready. This can make some individuals turn away and just make a hot brew instead.

Even though the preparation time of a cold brew can discourage some people from making cold brews, this shouldn’t make you turn away from cold brews completely. Cold brews are definitely going to be essential this summer as it is the perfect way to cool off in the heat.

If you are a coffee enthusiast, during the summertime cold brew coffee may just be the drink for you. Having a cool, refreshing beverage on a hot summer’s day is a great way to cool yourself down. Cold brews work perfectly for this if you are looking for a cool caffeinated beverage.
